Right after giving birth under caesarean section delivery, there was a continuous flow of bleeding which is like my monthly menstruation but on a heavy level that I have experienced. Then I learned that it is what they call Lochia which is a postpartum bleeding. This is just one of the postpartum symptoms you will experience after 40 weeks or so of pregnancy aches and pains.

Lochia is made up of leftover blood from your uterus and also includes mucus, tissue that also came from your placenta. Expect this kind of heavy bleeding to 4-5 days after giving birth then it will taper off like a regular period turning it from red to pink then to brownish to yellow for some 3-4 weeks. For extremely heavy bleeding that lasts for more than a week, it may be time to consult a physician.

For heavy kind of bleeding, it is advisable to use adult diaper instead of regular napkins. Tampons are not suggested since this might cause some bacterial infection that may enter to your uterus.
